Programs

One Mic will help grow a movement of young people picking up the pen and taking hold of the microphone and beyond as creators of social, artistic, educational, spiritual and political change. Led by two adult mentors and one youth mentor, workshops will be student-centered environments where young writers can experiment, explore, and eventually explode their work in performance. Workshops are designed to encourage brave and creative expression in the literary arts, spoken word, hip-hop and performance. One Mic aims to draw out young peoples’ voices and help increase literacy skills through writing and performance lessons that engage them and their personal stories – inviting them to participate in an “Oral Narrative Experience.” We plan Open Mic groups at three different locations.
